Imo CP sends out police for a nonviolent demonstration.
Members of the NLC and affiliated unions have declared a planned demonstration over the country’s economic woes.
The main purpose of the police deployment, according to the command’s spokesperson Henry Okoye, was to prevent criminals from taking advantage of the peaceful demonstration. This information was revealed in a brief statement made on Tuesday in Owerri, the state capital.
He declared that the police were prepared to take decisive action against the criminal elements and prevent any collapse of law and order.
In his writing, Okoye stated, “Massive deployment of security operatives across the state to ensure that criminal elements do not hijack the ongoing peaceful protest by the NLC.“
“The command is still dedicated to maintaining the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights while ensuring the highest level of security for everyone within the State.”
To voice their complaints about the current state of the economy, NLC members have taken to the streets of Lagos State.
Along with the gasoline subsidy elimination, they are also protesting the government’s purported inability to carry out agreements that were struck between the two parties on October 2, 2023.
The ruling came at the end of a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to take action against the pervasive misery.
